Intern - Manufacturing Engineer (Austin, TX)

The 2020 Manufacturing Engineering Internship is designed to prepare you for working in 3D printing space. This is an entry level intern position which assists in manufacturing engineering tasks for existing projects. The Manufacturing Engineering Intern will be assigned to a local Process/Mfg Engineer at the specific facility they report to and may be accountable for supporting any one of several new process development projects, or multiple smaller continuation engineering projects.

The Manufacturing Engineering Intern will spend most of their time assisting manufacturing engineering staff with process improvement, operations improvement, and analyzing data. Working with manufacturing engineering staff the intern may also be involved in product development and analysis projects and perform process testing using a variety of instructions.

  • Assist in developing manufacturing plans based on client purchase order requirements and internal capabilities.

  • Work with management, project engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.

  • Assist with blueprint/drawing review to allow proper planning and inspection.

  • Help design tooling and fixtures and provide written instructions and training on their use.

  • Help with reviewing and analyzing MRB and NCR reporting.

  • interface with suppliers to secure services necessary to meet customer requirements and delivery schedules.

  • Write and maintain work instructions, BOMs, process specifications and reports.

  • Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods and work areas.

  • Provide basic expertise on moving mechanisms, static mechanical elements, and materials properties, capabilities and limitations.

  • Help develop and maintain mechanical assembly testing procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.

  • Two years of higher education must be completed - (Entering Junior or Senior year education as of Spring 2020.)

  • Completed Coursework with Lean Manufacturing principles.

  • Basic understanding of manufacturing and product manufacturing processes

  • Completed coursework using CAD and SPC software

Preferred Qualifications

  • Capable of learning various analysis tools, methods of process, both software and hardware related.

  • Capable of preparing reports and publications and performing analytical reviews.

  • Capable of using power tools and measuring devices.
